Travelling to Loch Ness Hub from a Cruise
Welcome to the Highlands! If your cruise ship is docking at Invergordon and you’re dreaming of visiting Drumnadrochit – the home of Loch Ness – we’ve got all the travel information you need to plan your day trip with ease.
- Private Tours/ Taxis:
- The most convenient and flexible way to visit Drumnadrochit is by booking a private tour or taxi transfer. Many local operators offer full-day or half-day tours that will pick you up right from the port and bring you directly to the village, with optional stops at scenic locations like Urquhart Castle and Loch Ness.
- We recommend booking in advance, especially during the busy cruise season.
Organised Coach Tours:
Many cruise lines offer organised coach tours to Loch Ness and Drumnadrochit as part of their official shore excursions
Check with your cruise company for available excursions when booking your cruise or once onboard.
- Public Transport:
- For the more independent traveller, you can use a combination of train and bus to reach Drumnadrochit. Please note this option requires good time management and may not be suitable if your time ashore is limited.
Train from Invergordon to Inverness (approx. 50 minutes)
Bus from Inverness to Drumnadrochit (approx. 30 minutes – routes 917, 919, or Citylink)
Always check train and bus timetables in advance, as services are limited on weekends and public holidays.
By Car:
Prefer to explore on your own? You can hire a car from Inverness (some providers offer pick-up from the port or nearby). The drive to Drumnadrochit takes about 1 hour and offers beautiful views along the way.
Note: Driving is on the left in Scotland, and many roads are rural and scenic.
Please note that driving times are approximate and can vary based on traffic conditions and exact starting points. Donation based car parking and public toilet facilities available at the Loch Ness Hub year round.
